Rhinoplasty (1)
The ideal nose, for women, is consdered to be where the nostrils are not visible and the tip of the nose is lightly raised, and for men, is when the nose extends from the glabella to the tip in a straight line. There is a general misconception that a high nose is always ideal, but in fact the most beautiful nose is one that best complements one's face.
At D&A, we consider the balance of the nose with the rest of the face with utmost importance. Book your appointment now for a consultation.
Flat nose
What is a flat nose?
A flat nose is when the dorsum of the nose and the tip of the nose are low, relative to the forehead and the lips. The bones forming the dorsum, and the cartilages at the upper nose are small and low, and the same can be said about cartilages forming the tip of the nose.
Method of operation
Usually Gore-Tex, silicone, or autologous tissues are used to augment the dorsum, as well as the tip of the nose. In the past, an implant was inserted only to the nasal dorsum, but today the tip of the nose is also worked on, creating a more natural and well-balanced appearance of the nose.

Tip of the nose
When do you operate on the tip of the nose?
You may want to get operated on the tip of the nose when the height of the nasal dorsum is fine but the tip of the nose is low and blunt, or when the alar cartilages are wide apart.
Method of operation
There are three methods:
-
If the cartilage at the tip is large, then the upper bit is trimmed off.
-
If the cartilages are wide apart, then they are put together.
-
If the skin at the tip is thick, then the skin and the fat can be partially removed.

Hooked nose
What is a hooked nose?
A hooked nose refers to the excessive protrusion of the middle of the nasal dorsum where the nasal bone, cartilage at the upper nose, and the nasal septal cartilage meet. However, there are also cases where the area between the two eyes and the tip of the nose are relatively lower and result in this appearance.
Method of operation
The method varies for the two types of hooked noses, requiring proper diagnosis and planning. Generally speaking,
1. Remove the "bump", then (using scalpel and osteotome)
2. Make the dorsum narrower, and (fracture the nasal bones with an osteotome and bring them together)
3. Raise the tip. (reposition the cartilages at the tip upwards, and place an implant on top)

Bent nose
What is a bent nose?
A bent nose is then the nasal dorsum is bent or curved to either left or right. This does not only pose aesthetic problems, but also functional, where by one side of the nose becomes blocked.
Method of operation
1. If the curvature is mild
Without fracturing the nasal bone, it is possible to pull out the dipped area and trim off the protruding area, in order to straighten the dorsum.
(Grafts such as autologous cartilages, dermal fat, implants, etc. may be used.)
2. If the curvature is severe
If the dorsum is so high that even trimming off the bone does not help, or the curvature is too severe, the nasal bone is fractured and repositioned.
(If the nasal bone and the cartilage are bent towards one side to a large extent, the protruding area is trimmed off using a scalpel and osteotome, and the area dipping in can be straightened by moving the bones outwards and putting them together.)
3. Septoplasty
The functional problems due to bent nose are usually because of the bent nasal septum. Therefore, the main point of this surgery is to straighten it.
(If the bent nose is a result of bent nasal bone, then the shape of the nasal bone and and nasal septum are both corrected during surgery, and if only the cartilage is affected then the nasal septal cartilage is straightened and the tip of the nose is elevated.
